About Alpe d'Huez
Known not only to fans of the Tour de France, the Cycling-mountain of Alpe d'Huez, is also very popular with snowboard and alpine skiing fans. The Alpe d'Huez ski resort has very good snow conditions throughout the year because of the Pic Blanc glacier (above 3000 m). Because almost all slopes in the ski area (Les Grande Rousses) are on the South-side of the mountains, the sun shines over these slopes practically all year round. The village of Alpe d'Huez itself is a combination of old-fashioned chalets and modern apartment buildings. For a more authentic-style ski resort, the surrounding villages offer a great choice. The villages around the Alpe d'Huez itself are: Huez, Villard-Reculas, Auris and Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans and Vaujany.
Snowboarding Alpe d'Huez
For snowboarders, the broad slopes of the ski resort are very well suited and powder snow is available left and right from the main slopes to almost everywhere. Espace Freestyle - as the snow park is called - extends over 1.5 kilometers and includes: 1 half-pipe with snow making machine, 1 quarter pipe, 2 Snowboard high jumps, hips, tables, boardercross, quatters and hoops.
Skischools Alpe d'Huez
Around the Alpe d'Huez ski area there are three different ski schools: - ESS: Ecole du Ski Français (French Ski School), with more than 420 ski instructors - ESI: Ecole Internationale de Ski (International Ski School), with more than 15 ski instructors - British Masterclass (small ski school in English) for advanced skiers. The new ski school Stance (stance-snow.com) also specializes in English speaking skiers.
