The ski holiday village Saas-Balen is the first town you come along as you drive in the Saastal in Valais in Switzerland. The gate to the Saastal, with a few kilometres of own pistes is a great base for winter sports with children. Skiing from here to Saas-Fee is a bit far, but for only one or two days, Saas-Balen can definitely be recommended.

With 13 snow-capped mountains over 4,000 meters high, this area is perhaps the most snow-certain throughout Switzerland. On Allalin, one of the mountains you can ski naturally year-round, and lower in the village, where snow cannons and machines produce snow, both offer almost the exact same snow report. This ski area is for the serious skier, with red and black ski runs and a multitude of off-piste possibilities. On top of the Feeglacier, it is a real mecca for the experienced skiing or snowboarding fans.

Expected in Saas-Balen there is no wild apres-ski, but there are a number of fine restaurants.

Especially in the ski resort Saas-Fee, snowboarders can go all the way, with the snow park, Mittel, and a huge variety in off-piste and snow powder possibilities! Because of the many snow-making machines around this boarder park, there is enough snow, even in the off-season to go snowboarding in the Saastal.

The ski area Saas-Fee / Saastal alone counts 4 snowboard schools with more than 35 snowboard teachers. The ski schools in the region are also enormous with 2 ski schools in Saas-fee (60 ski instructors), 20 ski instructors in Saas Almagell, and 15 ski instructors in Saas-Grund.
